Kathmandu. The 2027 ODI World Cup will begin on October 2. The tournament, which will start on Gandhi Jayanti celebrated in India, will conclude on November 21. As per Cricbuzz, 14 teams will participate in the World Cup. The fate of 10 of these teams will be decided by September 30. This date is the cut-off date for determining teams qualifying for the World Cup based on ODI rankings. South Africa and Zimbabwe have already qualified as hosts for the World Cup. Another host country is Namibia. However, Namibia's participation in the World Cup is not yet confirmed. Besides hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe, eight more teams will secure a place in the World Cup based on rankings. Based on current rankings, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Australia, England, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh are in a position to qualify. However, Bangladesh's position has been affected due to South Africa. Since South Africa has already qualified as a host, Bangladesh, ranked ninth in the rankings, can also secure a place based on rankings. On the other hand, the West Indies, which is playing an ODI series in India, will have to pass the qualification stage to secure a place in the World Cup. The remaining four teams for the World Cup will come from the qualification tournament. They will be placed in the table as Qualifier-1, Qualifier-2, Qualifier-3, and Qualifier-4. According to the ICC, the main competition of the 2027 World Cup will be conducted in three stages before the semi-finals and finals. In the first stage, a Super Series will be held among the three lowest-ranked teams. The team finishing at the top of this round-robin stage will advance to the second stage. After that, there will be a second stage involving 12 teams. The 12 teams will be divided into groups of 6 each. A total of 30 matches will be played in each group on a round-robin basis. The top three teams from both groups will reach the Super-7 stage. Additionally, the best-performing team among those finishing fourth in both groups will also secure a place in the Super-7. There will be 21 matches in the Super-7 stage. The seven teams participating in this stage will compete against each other on a round-robin basis. The top four teams in the Super-7 standings will reach the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, the team finishing first in the Super-7 will play against the fourth-placed team. The second-placed team will compete against the third-placed team. The final match will be played on November 21 between the winners of both semi-finals. The ICC is preparing to release the ticket ballot process for the 2027 World Cup on Thursday. Tickets will not be available for immediate purchase. Fans will be able to register their names for the ticket ballot from October 1. Tickets will then be distributed through a designated process.
