Malaysia Considers Raising Minimum Monthly Wage to 2,000 Ringgit, Benefiting Nepali Workers

Kathmandu. The Malaysian government has moved forward with discussions on raising the minimum monthly wage from 1,700 Ringgit to 2,000 Ringgit. A decision is expected through the upcoming budget in 2027. If the proposal is implemented, Nepali workers receiving the minimum wage in Malaysia will also directly benefit.

Malaysia's Finance Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir stated that the final decision on whether to raise the minimum wage to 2,000 Ringgit or not will be made by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim when he presents the budget. He also mentioned that the additional costs, especially for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), need to be considered when increasing wages.
