Communist Party Chief Whip Yuwaraj Dulal Calls for Umbrella Act for Universities

Kathmandu. Chief Whip of the Communist Party of Nepal, Yuwaraj Dulal, has stated the need to bring an 'Umbrella Act' that encompasses all universities in Nepal. He expressed this view during the discussion on the proposal to consider the 'National Defence University Bill, 2083' in the House of Representatives meeting.

Mentioning that the practice of operating universities through separate bills has created confusion in the academic sector, he raised questions about academic autonomy and its scope of work. Dulal expressed skepticism about the objective of establishing the National Defence University and its practical operational framework, arguing that if the university loses academic freedom, it will be limited to a mere college and will not be able to withstand international competition.
