Displaced Families Face Bleak Festival Amidst Neglect

Kathmandu. Dashain is approaching, people are starting to plan for new clothes and goats, and other shopping. But the homeless people living in the holding center in Ichangunarayan on the western edge of Kathmandu city have no festive spirit. Here, there is only the desolate future after the house was demolished, the pain of illness, and the heavy tears of neglect given by the state.

On the 11th of Baisakh, bulldozers were run over unauthorized slum settlements in areas like Thapathali, Tinkune, Balkhu, and Manohara in Kathmandu. But even after five months, the government has not been able to arrange for their permanent rehabilitation.
