The Gautam Buddha International Airport, constructed by the state with significant investment for the expansion of the country's tourism and air infrastructure, is awaiting regular international flights. With the airport nearing four and a half years since its completion and operation, the lack of regular international flights has rekindled concerns among Rupandehi's private sector and local residents about the airport's future.

Businesses that have made substantial investments in hotels, tourism, transportation, and various industries centered around the airport have repeatedly drawn the government's attention to the need for regular international flights. Despite submitting memorandums, holding discussions, staging sit-ins, and protests to the Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, federal MPs, and relevant ministries and bodies, businesses complain that the desired results have not been achieved.
