Congress MP Anand Prasad Dhungana Draws Govt Attention to Religious Tensions in Sunsari

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress MP Anand Prasad Dhungana has drawn the government's attention to find an immediate solution to reduce the religious tension that has arisen in Sunsari and other districts of Madhesh. He drew this attention while speaking at Friday's National Assembly meeting. He questioned the government about why a situation arose in Sunsari's Captainganj that required firing. He stated that although Home Minister Sudhan Gurung informed about a seven-point agreement in Sunsari, the House needs to be clarified about the purpose of this agreement. He mentioned that the government should be serious about incidents that disrupt ethnic and religious harmony, as Nepal is a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, and multi-religious country. He accused the Prime Minister of trying to evade responsibility by merely issuing a statement, when he himself should have taken the initiative to reduce the arising tension. Speaking in the National Assembly, MP Dhungana said, 'There has been firing in various places in the country, including Sunsari.' He added, 'We had hoped that the Home Minister would come to the House today and give a response, but the Home Minister is not present.' Speaking about the agreement, he said, 'According to the information we received, he has made a seven-point agreement in Sunsari.' He further said, 'But we do not know what that negotiation and agreement are for.' Speaking about Nepal's social structure, he said, 'We are people of various ethnicities, languages, and religions living together; Nepal is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country.' Expressing dissatisfaction, he said, 'In a situation like the one that has occurred in the country today, the Prime Minister himself should have taken the initiative to resolve it, but yesterday he did a perfunctory job.' Commenting on the Prime Minister's actions, he said, 'Just issuing a statement is not enough for the Nepali people, given the suffering the Nepali people have endured.' Speaking about the deceased, he said, 'Today, Om Prakash Mehta and Jaiprakash Mehta of Captainganj have died; what is the cause of their death?' Raising questions about the government's delay, he said, 'The police used force; for this, I want to tell the government that the government should find an immediate solution.' He added, 'The government has been nowhere to be found for four days since the religious fire started.' MP Dhungana also demanded that the government provide a response to the House regarding the real cause of the deaths of Om Prakash Mehta and Jaiprakash Mehta of Captainganj.
