Constitutional Amendments Must Wait for Elected Parliament, Says Interim Prime Minister

Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki has declared that any amendments to the constitution, including changes to the system of governance, are beyond the mandate of the current transitional government and must be undertaken by a newly elected parliament.

In an address to the nation on Thursday, Karki emphasized the interim government's limited scope. "Issues including the amendment of Nepal's constitution and reforms to the governing system are outside the jurisdiction of the current interim government," she stated. "Therefore, I urge the youth, and all Nepali citizens who favor change, to participate in the upcoming elections and use the constitutional process to amend the constitution."
