Nepali Congress Central Members and Chief Whip Lose Mahadhibeshan Representative Elections

Kathmandu. Four central members of the Nepali Congress and the party's chief whip in the National Assembly have been defeated in the Mahadhibeshan representative elections. They were defeated in the elections for Mahadhibeshan representatives held as part of the party's 15th Mahadhibeshan, which is scheduled to begin on Sunday. This time, the Congress had amended its constitution to allow central members and members of parliament to compete from the lower levels to become Mahadhibeshan representatives. Under that provision, central members Umesh Jung Rayamajhi, Ganga Sunar, Sharda Devi Koirala, and Ram Bahadur Karki were defeated in the elections for Mahadhibeshan representatives in their respective constituencies. Rayamajhi had competed for one of the ten open Mahadhibeshan representative seats in his home district of Bhojpur. However, he was defeated, finishing in 11th place. He received 416 votes. Rayamajhi, who is close to former president Sher Bahadur Deuba, had only shown support for Gagan Thapa's faction on October 1. Central member Koirala, who had nominated herself for the women's quota for Mahadhibeshan representative in Tehrathum, was also defeated. Koirala, who became a central member through a special Mahadhibeshan, received only 410 votes. In the election where a total of 980 votes were cast, she finished fifth among the four women representatives competing. Jamuna Magar Karki came first with 508 votes, while Gita Devi Timsina Gautam (488), Tara Subba Limbu (455), and Sanisa Bhetuwal (440) were elected from that quota. Another central member, Ganga Sunar, was defeated in the election for Mahadhibeshan representative from Kathmandu Constituency No. 5 on Wednesday. Central member Sunar, who was a candidate in the Dalit cluster for the 15th Mahadhibeshan of the Congress, was defeated by Menuka Bhusal, a ward member of Budhanilkantha Municipality-6. Bhairav Sapkota, who won the Mahadhibeshan representative election from the same constituency, informed that central member Sunar was defeated in the Mahadhibeshan representative election. Another central member, Karki, was defeated in the election for Mahadhibeshan representative from Rupandehi Constituency No. 2. Karki, who competed for the open category Mahadhibeshan representative in Rupandehi Constituency No. 2, was defeated. Karki received only 208 votes in total. Those who received up to 263 votes were elected as Mahadhibeshan representatives in the open category where ten people were to be selected. However, Karki received only 208 votes. Karki was selected as a central member from the Lumbini Province in the special Mahadhibeshan held last December. He was defeated in the results that came out on Thursday night. National Assembly member and Congress Chief Whip Padam Bahadur Pariyar has been defeated in the Mahadhibeshan representative election under the Dalit proportional category for the 15th Mahadhibeshan of the Nepali Congress. He had competed for Mahadhibeshan representative under the Dalit proportional category from Tanahu 1. Pariyar expressed his gratitude to all those who supported him in the election. Pariyar stated that he participated in the election according to democratic methods and procedures, without prioritizing any faction or sub-faction. Thanking the regional representatives who voted for and supported him in the election, he mentioned that the results would not deter him and his supporters. He expressed his commitment to continue to be dedicated to honest and loyal politics under the four-star flag of the Nepali Congress in the coming days.
