Nepal's third presidential election takes place today

KATHMANDU, March 9: Nepal is set to elect its third president today, with Ram Chandra Poudel of the Nepali Congress and Subhash Chandra Nembang of CPN-UML competing for the position. The election is scheduled to begin at 10 AM.

A total of 332 lawmakers from the federal parliament and 550 lawmakers from the provincial assembly will be casting their votes to elect the new president of Nepal. Unlike other elections in the country, the public is not allowed to vote. Instead, an electoral college made up of all members of the federal parliament's House of Representatives and National Assembly, as well as members of the seven provincial parliaments, will choose the president. The electoral college will consist of 884 members, including 275 House of Representatives members, 59 National Assembly members, and 550 members from the provincial assemblies, as outlined in article 62 of the constitution.
