Kathmandu, Oct 2: The Bhotekoshi flash flood should not be regarded as an ordinary, usual flood. It was a major Himalayan disaster triggered when landslides of ice and rock from the mountains struck a river or lake, generating a devastating torrent carrying huge quantities of boulders, debris and sediment. Such an event is exceedingly rare in the history of disasters worldwide.
