Prime Minister Balen Shah's Himalayan Tourist Highway Project Faces Criticism

Kathmandu. The 'East-West Himalayan Tourist Highway' project put forward by Prime Minister Balendra (Balen) Shah, which promises a dream of Switzerland, is facing a growing threat of causing a serious crisis to Nepal's Himalayan tourism and civilization.

Even MPs from the ruling party have protested this plan, for which the government has already allocated over 42 million rupees for study. They have warned against turning the 'footpath into a graveyard' by bulldozing in the name of development, destroying the Himalayan environment and the originality of centuries-old trekking tourism.
