Wild Elephant Dhurve Remains Near National Park After Tusks Removed

Chitwan. The wild elephant Dhurve, which has been causing daily trouble by entering human settlements, has been staying within the national park even after its tusks were removed. After causing loss of life and property, Dhurve was brought under control and both its tusks were removed near Sukhiabhar Post inside Chitwan National Park on Asar 31. A new 'radio collar' was fitted to the elephant's body. According to Conservation Officer Praveen Poudel, Dhurve has been staying inside the national park after its tusks were removed. Locals reported that the elephant reached Amelia Agricultural Farm in Madi on Sunday morning. This area is located next to the Riu River, bordering the national park. It has been reported that it has not caused trouble by entering human settlements since then. Dhurve is being monitored every 10 minutes.

The park administration and the 'Operation Unit' of the Nepali Army deployed for security are obtaining information about the elephant every 10 minutes. This information is being provided to the residents of nearby settlements when the elephant reaches the part of the national park near human settlements. Conservation Officer Poudel said, "Dhurve can enter human settlements at any time, so we are on alert. The medicine administered while darting the elephant makes it sluggish for some time, so Dhurve is not in its previous state. Since it cannot be relied upon, the national park administration is vigilant."
