She announced her resignation amidst the controversy arising after the disclosure of documents related to the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Her resignation is reported to be effective from June 30.

She had been facing criticism for the past few weeks regarding her association with Epstein. She and her close sources have maintained that her relationship with Epstein was purely professional. In a statement given to CNN, Ruemmler stated that it was an honor for her to have worked at Goldman Sachs for the past six years.
