Major Political Parties Agree to Form Parliamentary Committee for Flood Disaster Management and Reconstruction

Kathmandu. An agreement has been reached among major political parties to form a 'parliamentary committee' for the long-term solution to the significant damage and environmental crisis caused by unexpected floods in river basins including Bhote Koshi in various districts of the country. The all-party meeting, convened to express sorrow over the immense human and physical infrastructure destruction in districts like Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Chitwan, and Nawalparasi, agreed to create such a mechanism for disaster management and reconstruction.

As mentioned in the joint statement issued after the meeting, this parliamentary committee will work for post-disaster reconstruction, climate adaptation, and timely improvement of national disaster policy. It will also play a role in monitoring and continuously advising and assisting the government's activities. The parties concluded that this mechanism will be important for finding a sustainable solution and building national consensus, not limiting disaster management to short-term relief.
