Nimsdai: Chasing The Impossible

A tribute to the mountaineer who made “Nothing is Impossible” his motto Born in the Myagdi district of Nepal, Nirmal Purja became known across high-altitude mountaineering by the motto “Nothing is impossible." From an early age, he was drawn to challenging, adventurous work. He joined the British Army's Brigade of Gurkhas, served in the Special Boat Service, and later turned to mountaineering. In 2019, he launched “Project Possible 14/7", an attempt to climb all fourteen of the world's 8,000-metre peaks in seven months. He drew on that experience to write his memoir, Beyond Possible: One Soldier, Fourteen Peaks – My Life in the Death Zone, and published it in 2020. He died in a devastating avalanche while climbing Pakistan’s Broad Peak, leaving the mountaineering world in silence.
