Leopard with Cubs Causes Fear in Bharatpur Residential Areas

A leopard with cubs roaming around the residential areas of Bharatpur has caused fear among the locals. It is believed that leopards enter human settlements because there are too many tigers inside the national park, preventing them from establishing their own separate territories.

Tirtha Lama, a wildlife technician at the National Trust for Nature Conservation, stated that the leopard seen in the settlement might have entered the area to protect its cubs from tigers. Female leopards need to protect their cubs not only from tigers but also from male leopards, as male leopards pose a threat of killing cubs, whether they are their own or from another leopard. One leopard that has been controlled is about nine months old. He mentioned that another might be a mother with a cub.
