Washington D.C. – US President Donald Trump has criticized the British plan to hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius. Trump stated that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is making a big mistake.

Under the agreement, Britain will return the sovereignty of the Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean to Mauritius, while retaining the strategically important Diego Garcia island on a 99-year lease. This island hosts a joint UK-US military base.
