Movie review: In ‘Chiso Maanchhe’, a journey with a corpse becomes a meditation on grief and human connection

Dipendra K Khanal’s 2022 film follows a dead migrant worker on his final journey home, finding grief, intimacy and a changing society in the silences along the way.

There are not many Nepali filmmakers willing to trust their audience to understand their film without announcing its intentions through dialogues. Dipendra K Khanal, however, seems to have given us a space to sit with his images, silences and ambiguities to make sense of ‘Chiso Maanchhe’ on our own.
