Far-Western Region Sees 43,593 Vehicle Fines in 13 Months

Mahendranagar. In the last 13 months, 43,593 vehicles have been fined by the traffic police in the Far-Western Region. According to the Highway Security and Traffic Management Office Attariya, Nepal Police, a fine of Rs 31,885,500 has been collected from vehicles violating traffic rules. According to the Chief of the Office, Police Superintendent Navraj Karki, 39,212 vehicles were fined in the nine districts of the region in the last fiscal year 2082-83. He informed that 4,381 vehicles have been fined in the first month of the current fiscal year, Shrawan. A fine of Rs 3,790,500 was collected from traffic fines in Shrawan alone. Police Superintendent Karki informed that 1,087 drivers were fined in Shrawan for driving under the influence of alcohol. Traffic police stated that motorcycles, jeeps/cars, trucks, and tractors are among the vehicles most frequently fined for not following traffic rules and reckless driving. Last fiscal year, 13,648 motorcycles were fined the most. Similarly, 8,893 jeeps/cars, 6,285 trucks, 3,711 tractors, 1,785 buses, and 4,890 other vehicles were fined. Police Superintendent Karki said that the risk of accidents has increased due to the increasing number of vehicles in the Far-Western Region, narrow roads, disregard for traffic rules, and lack of public awareness. He stated that the latest data shows an increasing trend in traffic rule violations. Traffic police have stated that they are conducting regular checks and awareness programs across the region. According to the Highway Security and Traffic Management Office, 250 people died in vehicle accidents in the Far-Western Region last year. In the accidents, 1,381 people were seriously injured and 1,162 people were minorly injured. Last year, 58 drivers were fined for driving under the influence of drugs, while 3,641 drivers were fined for driving under the influence of alcohol, the office stated.
