Rwandan Genocide Suspect Felicien Kabuga Dies in Custody at 93

The Hague. The United Nations court has stated that Felicien Kabuga, one of the main suspects in the 1994 Rwandan genocide, has died in custody. He was 93 years old. Kabuga was arrested in France in 2020 after being on the run for more than two decades. He was then extradited to The Hague.
Later, the court ruled that he was unfit to stand trial due to dementia. It was also determined that he could not be returned to Rwanda due to his poor health. Since no country wanted to accept him, Kabuga had been living in a United Nations detention center. The court has ordered an investigation into the circumstances of his death.
