Experts Link Disasters to Development Practices and Climate Change

Lalitpur. Water resource expert and former Water Resources Minister Engineer Deepak Gyawali has stated that disasters have occurred due to development practices.

Speaking at a seminar on the causes, effects, early warning systems, and disaster risk reduction measures of the 2026 BhoteKoshi-Trishuli flood, organized by Everest Engineering College in collaboration with the Water and Weather Journalists Society Nepal on Tuesday, he said that building roads along rivers for convenience has led to increased commercialization and urbanization. As human settlements have expanded, river areas have shrunk, resulting in significant damage during unusual natural disaster situations.
