Maoist Insurgency's Legacy: Human Trafficking, Economic Decline, and Political Turmoil

Human trafficking has emerged as the final consequence of the war against capitalism and imperialism. This crisis was born out of the terror, destruction, social decay, and killings that began in Rolpa, the Maoist stronghold, during a decades-long civil war. This ideological 'base area' also taught people how to illegally enter the United States using secret lower routes. Looking at this history, it is natural to wonder what steps Comrade Prachanda will take now and in what form.

The Maoist insurgency, which began in February 1996 and lasted until the comprehensive peace agreement in November 2006, forced thousands of rural families to migrate to urban centers. Consequently, most young people have gone abroad to earn a living and support their displaced families. This exodus of manpower has left many hilly districts deserted and farmlands barren.
