China Informs Nepal: Tibetan Avalanche Caused Bhote Koshi River Flood

Kathmandu. China has informed Nepal that the main reason for the sudden flood in the Bhote Koshi river in Rasuwa was an avalanche in Tibet. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, preliminary information has been received that a severe flood occurred in the Bhote Koshi due to an avalanche in the Tibet region of China. Deputy Secretary and spokesperson of the Authority, Shanti Mahat, stated that this information came informally from China and efforts are underway to understand it further. She clarified that the preliminary study by the technicians in that area points to the Tibetan avalanche as the main cause of the flood and further investigation is ongoing. Information Officer of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Dinkar Kayastha, also informed that according to preliminary studies, the flood appeared to be caused by an avalanche in Tibet, and work is underway to confirm this in detail. He said that detailed information is also being collected through the department's staff in China. He said, 'Some of our friends are in China, and we are trying to understand what exactly happened.' According to Kayastha, efforts are being made to confirm the actual cause of the flood through the team in China as well as through other diplomatic and technical channels.
