The only Nepalese billionaire businessman political test

KATHMANDU: Binod Chaudhary, Nepal’s only dollar billionaire, did not want to run for proportional MP this time. He previously served as a proportional member of parliament for the CPN-UML, and this year he is running for Nawalparasi-1 on the Nepali Congress ticket.

Chaudhary, 67, is running for election in his constituency after leading the Federation of Nepal Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Confederation of Industries. In this race, he is not driving his ‘favorite’ Range Rover. Chaudhary, who is always dressed in suits and boots, is making his way to voters’ homes on foot, in a three-wheeled auto, and on the back of an activist’s motorcycle. They also drive tractors and visit farmers’ fields.
