Lessons From Disaster

Nepal has been reeling from the impacts of the August 26 catastrophic floods in the Bhotekoshi River that swept away settlements, bridges, hydropower project structures, critical infrastructure for drinking water, health facilities, internet, power supply and everything else that came in its way. As of this writing, over 350 have been confirmed killed and hundreds remain missing. The nation is no stranger to natural disasters, but this one has only a few parallels in terms of severity and damage caused. Experts now believe glacier collapse and debris flow are the cause of the Himalayan tsunami.
