Republic Day celebrated with grandeur at Tundikhel (Photos)

Nepal is celebrating Republic Day today, marking the historic declaration of the federal democratic republican system on Jestha 15, 2065 BS (May 28, 2008), which formally ended the autocratic monarchy.

The government held a special ceremony at Tundikhel in Kathmandu to commemorate the occasion. The event featured a flower drop by army helicopters and a parade by security personnel. As in previous years, doves—symbols of peace—were also released during the celebration.
