Tension continues in Sudan despite truce efforts

CAIRO, May 9: Despite several ceasefires declared by Sudan's conflicting parties, tensions and some deadly fighting continue to rage in the capital Khartoum and other areas.

According to a Xinhua reporter in Khartoum, gunfire and explosions could still be heard in Khartoum on Monday when representatives from the two sides are in Saudi Arabia for talks that mediators hope could bring an end to the over three weeks of hostilities that have killed hundreds and displaced thousands.
