Nationwide Highways Disrupted by Landslides and Floods

Kathmandu. The main highways across the country have been severely affected due to continuous rain, floods, and landslides. Nepal Police, updating the situation as of 6:40 AM on Monday, informed that various road sections in Bagmati, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces, including the valley, are blocked. In some places, roads are 'completely obstructed', while in others, traffic is 'partially open' or allowed only at specific times. In Bagmati Province, landslides on the Prithvi Highway in Dhading have caused significant disruption to traffic. The road is completely blocked at Krishnabhir in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-7 and Chalise in Gajuri Rural Municipality-2. Traffic is only partially open at Parevabir in Gajuri and at Jwankhola in Benighat Rorang. In Chisapani, Chandragiri Municipality-2, Kathmandu, a landslide has made the Kathmandu-Dhading road only partially open. Meanwhile, on the BP Highway section in Kavre, Khurkot-Nepalethok-Katunjebesi, due to the potential risk of floods, freight vehicles up to 10 tons are allowed to operate only from 7 PM to 5 AM. For other vehicles, operation is permitted only from 4 AM to 6 PM, considering the situation. In Rasuwa, the Trishuli-Mailung-Syaphru Bensi road section at Khalte, Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5, is completely closed due to floods. Police stated that the obstruction on this road is expected to 'last for a long time'. The main highway of Rasuwa is also completely shut due to floods. In Nuwakot, the Tokha-Chhahare road section at Ghattethola, Shivapuri Rural Municipality-8, has traffic restrictions from 10 PM to 5 AM due to the risk of potential floods and landslides. Similarly, at Simtar in Betrawati, Nuwakot, on the Pasang Lhamu Highway, the road is completely blocked. In Lumbini and Karnali provinces, landslides have also blocked traffic in hilly and mountainous districts. In Rolpa, Lumbini Province, a landslide at Bhalkhor, Parivartan Rural Municipality-3, has completely closed the Shahid Highway. In Karnali Province, four main road sections are blocked. The Mugu-Gamgadhi road at Talcha, Chhayanath Rara Municipality-4, Mugu, is completely obstructed. On the Karnali Highway, landslides at Gagane Khola, Shubhkalika Rural Municipality-1, Kalikot, and at Rato Pahad in Khandachakra Municipality wards 7 and 8 have completely blocked the highway. Similarly, the Karnali Highway at Aulise, Barahatal-7, Surkhet, and the Rapti Highway at Kapurkot-4, Salyan, are completely closed due to landslides, according to police reports.
