Geologist Arnold Dix Faces Unprecedented Challenges in Nepal's Multiple Rescues

Kathmandu. Geologist and disaster rescuer Professor Arnold Dix has stated that he is facing a situation in Nepal that he has never encountered before. He shared his views on the current flood and disaster rescue situation in Nepal on the social media platform 'X'. According to him, Nepal is currently facing multiple complex rescue operations simultaneously in different places, each with its own dangers, uncertainties, and potential lives to be saved. He recalled the Silkyara tunnel accident in India. He stated that the seemingly impossible goal of bringing out 41 people trapped underground alive in Silkyara was achieved. He said that passing a big test does not mean the test is over, but rather it can mean being entrusted with a greater responsibility. He mentioned that Western tradition considers this a duty, where the responsibility is fulfilled even if success is uncertain. He noted that in Eastern tradition, this is viewed as 'Dharma'. He clarified that the test is not limited to success or failure, but lies in continuing to do the right thing even when the path is difficult and responsibilities increase. He stated that Silkyara taught him not to consider extraordinary situations as impossible, and Nepal is teaching him even more. He concluded that when multiple lives depend on us simultaneously, hope should not be limited to discipline, compassion to action, and duty to certainty of success. He wrote that whether East or West, the principle is the same, and people are measured not only by the lives they save but also by the lives they refuse to abandon.
