जनआस्थाको कार्यालयमा एक युवतीले रक्सीको बोतल र ५० हजार रुपैयाँ छोडेर हिँडेपछि…

काठमाडौं । कालो चस्मा र अनुहारमा मास्क लगाएकी एक युवती शुक्रबार अपराह्न सवा ५ बजेतिर सानेपास्थित जनआस्था साप्ताहिकको कार्यालय परिसरमा देखापर्छिन् । उनको हातमा एउटा निलो प्लास्टिकको थैलो हुन्छ ।

थैलोलाई जनआस्था कार्यालयको गेटमा थपक्क राखेर उनी आफ्नो बाटो लाग्छिन् । केहीबेरमा जनआस्थाका स्टाफहरू तल झर्छन् । थैलो टिपेर हेर्छन् । त्यसभित्र हुन्छ, एउटा रक्सीको बोतल र ५० हजार रुपैयाँ नगद । ती युवती को थिइन् र यो ‘उपहार’ को रहस्य थियो भन्ने विषयमा अहिले प्रहरीले अनुसन्धान गरिरहेको छ । जनआस्था साप्ताहिकका सम्पादक किशोर श्रेष्ठको मौखिक उजुरीका आधारमा जिल्ला प्रहरी कार्यालयले छानबिन थालेको हो ।

श्रेष्ठले आज आफ्नो फेसबुकमा कालो चस्मा र मास्क लगाएकी, साइड ब्याग बोकेकी युवतीको एउटा स्क्रिनसट फोटो पोस्ट गरेका छन् । यो स्क्रिनसट घटनास्थलमा रहेको सेक्युरिटी क्यामराको फुटेजबाट लिइएको हो । त्यसअघि नै श्रेष्ठले एउटा फेसबुक स्टाटस पनि लेखेका थिए । विगतमा माओवादी नेता कृष्णबहादुर महरालाई फसाइएकै शैलीमा आफूलाई फसाउने षडयन्त्र गरिएको उनको भनाइ छ ।

श्रेष्ठका अनुसार उनलाई सौरभ यादवको नाममा दर्ता भएको चिनिया (सेन्चेन) को नम्बरबाट शुक्रबार मिस्टर यिङ र मिस्टर एमको नक्कली नाममा फोन आएको थियो । फोन गर्नेले गृहमन्त्रीमा सुधन गुरुङलाई छेक्नुपर्‍यो भन्दै १० लाख रुपैयाँको प्रलोभन दिएको उनी बताउँछन् । ती व्यक्तिले आफूलाई सानो उपहार पठाउने भनेको तर आफूले ‘इग्नोर’ गरेको श्रेष्ठको भनाइ छ ।

श्रेष्ठले यो स्टाटस लेख्नुअघि एउटा विवादास्पद भिडिओ सामाजिक सञ्जालमा सार्वजनिक भएको थियो । मेकानिकल इन्जिनियर शैलेश साहको फेसबुक आइडीबाट आएको यो भिडिओमा पत्रकार श्रेष्ठको एक ‘चिनिया नागरिक’ सँग भएको फोन संवाद र केही स्क्रिनसट राखिएको छ ।

यसैगरी भिडिओमा केही संवादका स्क्रिनसटहरु छन् । ती संवादको केन्द्रमा पनि गिफ्ट र सुदन गुरुङ नै छन् ।

ह्वाट्सएपको जस्तो देखिने एउटा स्क्रिनसटमा किशोर श्रेष्ठको फोन नम्बर देखिएको छ र त्यसमा लेखिएको छ, ‘मैले ५० हजार र एउटा बोतल मात्रै पाएँ । मैले समाचारलाई पुरै भाइरल बनाइसकेको छु । यो अझै फैलिँदै छ र म तिमीलाई केही लिंकहरु पठाउँछु ।’

पत्रकार श्रेष्ठले भिडिओमार्फत सार्वजनिक भएका फोन संवाद र च्याटका स्क्रिनसट सम्पादित र कतिपय फेक रहेको बताएका छन् ।

नेपाल प्रेससँग कुरा गर्दै उनले भने, ‘मलाई पैसाको अफर गरिएको हो । तर, म करोडौंमा नबिकेको पत्रकार ५० हजार रुपैयाँमा बिक्छु होला ? त्यो मैले ५० हजार पैसा पाएँ भनेर लेखिएको च्याटको स्क्रिनसट पुरै ‘फेक’ हो । फोनमा आवाज मेरै भए पनि गलत अर्थ लाग्ने गरी काँटछाँट गरेर हालिएको छ । मैले कतै पनि गिफ्ट लिन्छु वा पाएँ भनेर भनेको छैन ।’

जनआस्था साप्ताहिकले आज फोन कन्भर्सेसनको सानो क्लिप सार्वजनिक गरेको छ । यो संवादमा चाहिँ ‘गिफ्ट’को विषयमा भएको कुराकानीको सन्दर्भ समावेश छैन । सुदन गुरुङको विषयमा बोलेको कुरा मात्रै छ । यद्यपि, गिफ्टको प्रस्ताव आएको श्रेष्ठले स्वीकार गरेका छन् ।

उनी भन्छन्, ‘बेइजिङबाट भन्दै कल गर्ने व्यक्तिले पटक पटक गिफ्टको कुरा गरिरहेको थियो । मैले वास्ता गरिनँ । पछि फोन पनि उठाउन छोडेँ । तर फोन/म्यासेज गरेको गर्यै गर्न थाल्यो । सुधन गुरुङलाई ड्यामेज गर्न एक लाख पठाउँछौँ, १० लाख अर्को हप्ता दिन्छौँ भन्ने ब्यहोराको पनि म्यासेज आयो । मैले त्यसमा पनि कुनै जवाफ दिएको छैन । नभन्दै शुक्रबार बेलुकी साँच्चै एक जना युवतीले सामान छोडेर गइन् ।’

‘म त्यसबेला मिटिङमा थिएँ । सामान छोडेर गएको सिसिटीभीको लाइभमै देखेँ । सामान छोडेर गएलगत्तै फोन आयो । रविको मुद्दा के हुँदैछ भनेर सोध्यो । छुटिसक्यो भनेपछि अर्को हप्ता १० लाख पठाउँछु । मेरो बोसलाई भनिसकेँ भन्छ । त्यसपछि फेरि सुदन गुरुङको विषयमा न्यूज लिंक पठाउनु भन्छ । म किन पठाउने ? तर, फेक स्क्रिनसटहरु बनाएछन् । ठ्याक्क पहिला महरा स्टाइलमा जे गरेको थियो, त्यही गर्न खोजियो ।’

सार्वजनिक भएको फोन संवाद र च्याटको स्क्रिनसट हेर्दा शंका गर्ने ठाउँहरू धेरै छन् । बारम्बार ‘गिफ्ट’ को कुरामा जोड दिनुले श्रेष्ठविरुद्ध प्रमाण सिर्जना गर्ने नियतबाट संवाद गरिएको अनुमान गर्न सकिन्छ । फोन संवादको ‘सिक्वेन्स’ पनि मिलेको छैन । सुरुमै ‘तिमीलाई सम्झना भए हामीबाट तिमीले एउटा गिफ्ट लिएका थियौ’ भनिएको छ । पछाडि फेरि ‘आज ४ बजे गिफ्ट आउँछ’ भनिएको छ ।

च्याटको स्क्रिनसटमा सोझै ‘मैले ५० हजार र रक्सीको बोतल मात्र पाएँ’ भनेर लेखिएको छ । किशोर श्रेष्ठ जतिका दिग्गज र बाठा पत्रकारले यसरी च्याटमा पैसा लिएको कुरा लेखे होला भनेर विश्वास गर्न कठिन हुन्छ । साथै, श्रेष्ठलाई नजिकबाट चिन्नेहरू उनी यति सहजै पैसामा बिक्ने पत्रकार हुन् भनेर पत्याउँदैनन् ।

च्याट र फोन वार्ताबारे दूधको दूध पानीको पानी छुट्याउन गहन प्रहरी अनुसन्धान आवश्यक देखिएको छ । श्रेष्ठ स्वयम्ले यस प्रकरणमा छानबिन गरेर सत्यतथ्य बाहिर ल्याउन सरकार र रास्वपालाई आग्रह गरेका छन् ।

जिल्ला प्रहरी ललितपुर स्रोतले यस घटनाका विषयमा श्रेष्ठबाट मौखिक उजुरी आएको बतायो ।

स्रोतले भन्यो, ‘किशोर श्रेष्ठले फोन गरेर सबै जानकारी गराउनुभएको छ । हिजो र आज सार्वजनिक विवाद भएकाले लिखित उजुरी दर्ता भएको छैन ।’

जिल्ला प्रहरी कार्यालयले आफ्नो क्षेत्रमा भएको घटना हुँदा सामान छोड्ने युवतीको खोजी गर्न सक्ने तर प्राविधिक विषयमा छानबिनको लागि श्रेष्ठले साइबर ब्यूरोमै उजुरी दिनुपर्ने स्रोतको भनाइ छ ।

Kathmandu. A young woman wearing dark glasses and a face mask appears at the office premises of Jana Aastha Weekly in Sanepa around 5:15 pm on Friday. She has a blue plastic bag in her hand.

She leaves the bag at the gate of the Jana Aastha office and goes on her way. After a while, the Jana Aastha staff comes down. They pick up the bag and look. Inside it is a bottle of liquor and 50 thousand rupees in cash. The police are currently investigating who the girl was and the secret of this 'gift'. The District Police Office has started the investigation based on a verbal complaint by the editor of the Jana Aastha weekly, Kishor Shrestha.

Shrestha posted a screenshot of a young woman wearing dark glasses and a mask and carrying a side bag on his Facebook today. This screenshot was taken from the footage of a security camera at the scene. Shrestha had also written a Facebook status before that. He says that a conspiracy has been hatched to frame him in the same way that Maoist leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara was framed in the past.

According to Shrestha, he received a call on Friday from a Chinese (Shenzhen) number registered in the name of Saurabh Yadav under the fake names of Mr. Ying and Mr. M. He says the caller offered him Rs 1 million to prevent Sudhan Gurung from becoming the Home Minister. Shrestha says the person offered him a small gift, but he ignored it.

Before Shrestha wrote this status, a controversial video had gone public on social media. The video, which came from the Facebook ID of mechanical engineer Shailesh Sah, contains a phone conversation between journalist Shrestha and a 'Chinese citizen' and some screenshots.

The phone conversation in English is as follows.

Unidentified Person: Hello Mr. Kishore

Kishore: So...o, have we met before? (Have we met before?

Unknown Person: No, but you received some gifts from us, if you remember..

Teen: Ah...ah....

Anonymous We are very happy with what you are doing. And we hope to continue this in the future as well.

Teen: Oh... Okay.

Unknown person: But this man Sudhan Gurung is not right for us.

Teen: (Laughs)

Unknown person: You understand what I mean. And, we will send you a gift today at 4 pm. A friend of mine will call you and meet you with a gift.

Kishore: Yayaya...

Unknown person: You probably understand what I'm saying about Gurung.

Kishore: No...

Unknown person: A girl friend of mine will call from a Nepali number.

Teen: Um...

Unknown person: You coordinate with him and meet him around 4 pm.

There are also screenshots of some dialogues in the video. Gift and Sudan Gurung are at the center of those dialogues.

A screenshot of what appears to be a WhatsApp message shows Kishor Shrestha's phone number and reads, "I got only 50,000 and a bottle. I have made the news completely viral. It is still spreading and I am sending you some links."

Journalist Shrestha has said that the screenshots of phone conversations and chats made public through video have been edited and some are fake.

Speaking to Nepal Press, he said, "I have been offered money. But, can I, a journalist who has not been sold for crores, be sold for 50,000 rupees? The screenshot of the chat that says I received 50,000 rupees is completely 'fake'. Even though the voice on the phone is mine, it has been edited to give a false meaning. I have not said anywhere that I will accept or receive a gift."

Janaastha Weekly has released a short clip of the phone conversation today. This conversation does not include any reference to the conversation about the 'gift'. It only contains what was said about Sudan Gurung. However, Shrestha has admitted that the gift proposal was received.

He says, 'The person calling from Beijing kept talking about gifts. I ignored him. Later, I stopped picking up the phone. But he kept calling/messaging me. I also received a message saying that we will send 100,000 to damage Sudhan Gurung, and 100,000 next week. I did not respond to that either. On Friday evening, a young woman actually left her belongings.'

"I was in a meeting at that time. I saw the CCTV footage of the person leaving the luggage. As soon as I left the luggage, I got a call. They asked what was going on with Ravi's case. They said it was resolved and I will send 1 million next week. They said they had told my boss. Then they asked me to send them a news link about Sudan Gurung. Why should I send it? But they made fake screenshots. They tried to do exactly what they had done in Mahara style before."

There are many areas of doubt when looking at the screenshots of the phone conversations and chats that have been made public. The repeated emphasis on the 'gift' suggests that the conversation was conducted with the intention of creating evidence against Shrestha. The 'sequence' of the phone conversation is also not consistent. At the beginning, it is said, 'If you remember, you received a gift from us'. Later, it is said again, 'The gift will arrive at 4 pm today'.

The screenshot of the chat directly says, 'I only got 50 thousand and a bottle of alcohol.' It is hard to believe that a veteran and experienced journalist like Kishor Shrestha would write about taking money in a chat like this. Also, those who know Shrestha closely do not believe that he is a journalist who is so easily sold for money.

A thorough police investigation is needed to separate the truth from the chat and phone conversations. Shrestha himself has urged the government and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to investigate the matter and bring out the truth.

A source from the Lalitpur District Police said that a verbal complaint was received from Shrestha regarding this incident.

The source said, "Kishor Shrestha has called and informed us of everything. Since there was a public dispute yesterday and today, a written complaint has not been registered."

Sources say that the District Police Office can search for the woman who left the luggage when the incident occurred in their area, but Shrestha should file a complaint with the Cyber Bureau for an investigation into technical matters.
