ट्रम्पले आफ्नो जन्मदिनमा ह्वाइट हाउसमा ‘यूएफसी फाइट’ गराउने, स्टेज तयार हुँदै

काठमाडौं। अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रम्प १४ जुनमा ८० वर्षका हुँदैछन्। यस अवसरमा ह्वाइट हाउसमा अल्टिमेट फाइटिङ च्याम्पियनसिप (यूएफसी)का प्रतिस्पर्धा आयोजना गरिने भएको छ।

यूएफसी विश्वकै सबैभन्दा ठूलो मिश्रित मार्शल आर्ट्स संस्था हो, जहाँ विभिन्न लडाइँ खेलका खेलाडीहरू एकअर्काविरुद्ध प्रतिस्पर्धा गर्छन्।

यूएफसी प्रमुख डाना ह्वाइटका अनुसार ह्वाइट हाउसमा प्रतिस्पर्धा गराउने विचार स्वयं ट्रम्पले दिएका हुन्।

उनका अनुसार यसका लागि ह्वाइट हाउसको साउथ लनमा विशेष फाइटिङ क्षेत्र निर्माण भइरहेको छ, जहाँ ४ हजारभन्दा बढी दर्शक अट्न सक्नेछन्।

यसका अतिरिक्त ह्वाइट हाउस नजिकको एलिप्स मैदानमा प्रतिस्पर्धा प्रत्यक्ष देखाउन ठूला स्क्रिन जडान गरिनेछ। यहाँ ७५ हजारदेखि १ लाखसम्म दर्शकले निःशुल्क रूपमा प्रतिस्पर्धा हेर्न सक्नेछन्।

डाना ह्वाइटले बताएअनुसार ट्रम्पले यो कार्यक्रम अमेरिकाको २५०औँ स्थापना वर्षको उत्सवको हिस्साका रूपमा आयोजना गर्न चाहेका हुन्।

अल जजिराका अनुसार मुख्य प्रतिस्पर्धामा अमेरिकी फाइटर जस्टिन गेथ्जी र जर्जियाका स्टार फाइटर इलिया टोपुरिया आमनेसामने हुने सम्भावना छ।

ट्रम्पले १ हजार टिकट बाँड्ने

डाना ह्वाइटले आफूले २०० टिकट बाँड्ने बताएका छन् भने ट्रम्पले १ हजार टिकट वितरण गर्नेछन्। यूएफसीको मालिक कम्पनी टीकेओ समूहका प्रमुख एरी इमानुएलसँग पनि २०० टिकट हुनेछन्। बाँकी टिकट अमेरिकी सैनिकहरूलाई दिइनेछ।

ट्रम्पले हालै यूएफसी प्रतिस्पर्धाका टिकटको अत्यधिक माग रहेको बताएका थिए। उनले भने, “मैले कुनै पनि कार्यक्रममा मानिसहरू यति उत्साहित भएको देखेको छैन। यो एकदमै फरक र विशेष यूएफसी कार्यक्रम हुनेछ।”

अधिकारीहरूका अनुसार प्रतिस्पर्धाअघि खेलाडीहरूको तौल नाप्ने प्रक्रिया लिन्कन स्मारकमा गरिनेछ।

ह्वाइट हाउसमा यस कार्यक्रमको तयारी सुरु भइसकेको छ। साथै ट्रम्पले अगस्टमा वासिङ्टनका सडकमा इन्डीकार मोटर दौड आयोजना गर्ने तयारीसमेत गरिरहेका छन्।

यो दौड वासिङ्टन स्मारक र अमेरिकी संसद भवनजस्ता प्रसिद्ध स्थान वरपर सञ्चालन हुनेछ।

ट्रम्प र डाना ह्वाइटको पुरानो मित्रता

ट्रम्प र डाना ह्वाइटको मित्रता निकै पुरानो हो। राजनीतिमा आउनुअघि ट्रम्पले आफ्ना होटल र सम्पत्तिमा यूएफसी प्रतिस्पर्धा आयोजना गर्न अनुमति दिएका थिए। त्यतिबेला धेरैले यस खेलको आलोचना गर्थे।

यसको बदलामा डाना ह्वाइटले पटक–पटक ट्रम्पको समर्थन गरेका छन्। रिपब्लिकन राष्ट्रिय सम्मेलनमा पनि उनले ट्रम्पको पक्षमा भाषण दिएका थिए।

डाना ह्वाइटले आफूलाई कहिलेकाहीँ यूएफसीको अहिलेको उचाइ विश्वास गर्न गाह्रो हुने बताएका छन्। उनका अनुसार आज विश्वकै शक्तिशाली व्यक्ति स्वयं यूएफसीको सबैभन्दा ठूलो प्रवर्द्धक बनेका छन्।

३३ वर्षअघि सुरु भएको थियो यूएफसी

अल्टिमेट फाइटिङ च्याम्पियनसिप (यूएफसी)को स्थापना सन् १९९३ मा अमेरिकामा भएको थियो।

त्यतिबेला विभिन्न मार्शल आर्ट्सका खेलाडीहरूले आफ्नो प्रविधि सबैभन्दा प्रभावकारी भएको दाबी गर्थे। कसैले मुक्केबाजी, कसैले कराते, त कसैले कुस्ती वा जिउ–जित्सुलाई उत्कृष्ट मान्थे।

यही बहसलाई वास्तविक प्रतिस्पर्धामा बदल्ने उद्देश्यले यूएफसी सुरु गरिएको थियो। पहिलो प्रतियोगितामा जिउ–जित्सुका प्रयोगकर्ता रोयस ग्रेसी विजेता बनेका थिए।

ग्रेसी अरू प्रतिस्पर्धीझैँ बलिया वा भारीकाय देखिँदैनथे, तर उनले ठूला मुक्केबाज र कराते खेलाडीलाई भुइँमा लडाएर आत्मसमर्पण गराउन सफल भएका थिए।

पछि खेलको स्वरूप परिवर्तन भयो र खेलाडीहरूले जितका लागि मुक्केबाजी, कुस्ती, जुडो, कराते, तेक्वान्दो, जिउ–जित्सु र किकबक्सिङजस्ता विभिन्न प्रविधिको मिश्रित प्रयोग गर्न थाले।

डाना ह्वाइटले यूएफसी किने, बिक्रीपछि पनि चर्चामा रहे

सन् २००१ मा डाना ह्वाइटले आफ्ना पुराना साथी लोरेन्जो फर्टिटा र फ्र्याङ्क फर्टिटासँग मिलेर यूएफसी खरिद गरेका थिए। त्यसबेला संस्था लगभग विलय हुने अवस्थामा थियो र केवल २० लाख अमेरिकी डलरमा खरिद गरिएको थियो।

डाना ह्वाइट अध्यक्ष बनेपछि भएको पहिलो ठूलो यूएफसी कार्यक्रम ट्रम्पको सम्पत्ति ट्रम्प ताज महलमा आयोजना गरिएको थियो।

त्यतिबेला धेरै व्यवसायी यूएफसीबाट टाढा रहँदा ट्रम्पले आफ्नो होटल र क्यासिनोमा यसलाई स्थान दिएका थिए।

सन् २०१६ मा हलिउड एजेन्ट एरी इमानुएलको कम्पनीले यूएफसीलाई ४ अर्ब डलरमा खरिद गर्‍यो। उक्त सम्झौतामा डाना ह्वाइटले करिब ३६ करोड डलर प्राप्त गरेका थिए। तर कम्पनी परिवर्तन भए पनि यूएफसीको मुख्य अनुहार भने उनी नै बने रहे।

त्यही वर्ष ट्रम्पले डाना ह्वाइटलाई रिपब्लिकन राष्ट्रिय सम्मेलनमा भाषण दिन निम्तो दिएका थिए। धेरैले उनलाई राजनीति टाढा राख्न सुझाव दिएका थिए, तर डाना ह्वाइटले ट्रम्प आफ्नो असल मित्र भएकाले साथ नछोड्ने बताएका थिए।

कोभिड महामारीका बेला पनि डाना ह्वाइटले यूएफसी प्रतिस्पर्धा रोकेनन्। उनले अबुधाबीमा “फाइट आइल्यान्ड” निर्माण गरेर सुरक्षा घेराभित्र प्रतिस्पर्धा सञ्चालन गराए। अन्य खेलकुद रोकिएका बेला यूएफसी निरन्तर चलिरहँदा यसको लोकप्रियता अझ बढ्यो।

According to UFC president Dana White, the idea of holding the fight at the White House was suggested by Trump himself.

According to him, a special fighting area is being built on the South Lawn of the White House for this, which will be able to accommodate more than 4,000 spectators.

In addition, large screens will be installed to show the competition live on the Ellipse field near the White House. Here, 75,000 to 100,000 spectators will be able to watch the competition for free.

Dana White said Trump wanted to hold the event as part of the celebration of America's 250th anniversary.

According to Al Jazeera, the main event is likely to pit American fighter Justin Gaethje against Georgian star fighter Ilya Topuria.

Trump will distribute 1,000 tickets

Dana White has said he will give away 200 tickets, while Trump will give away 1,000. Eric Emanuel, the head of UFC's parent company TKO Group, will also have 200 tickets. The remaining tickets will be given to US troops.

Trump recently said that tickets for UFC fights were in high demand. "I've never seen people so excited for an event. This is going to be a very different and special UFC event," he said.

According to officials, the athletes' weighing process before the competition will be held at the Lincoln Memorial.

Preparations for this event have already begun at the White House. Trump is also preparing to host an IndyCar motor race on the streets of Washington in August.

The race will take place around famous landmarks such as the Washington Monument and the US Capitol Building.

Trump and Dana White's old friendship

Trump and Dana White have a long-standing friendship. Before entering politics, Trump allowed UFC fights to be held at his hotels and properties. At the time, many criticized the sport.

In return, Dana White has repeatedly supported Trump. He even gave a speech in Trump's favor at the Republican National Convention.

Dana White says he sometimes finds it hard to believe the UFC's current stature. According to him, the most powerful man in the world today has become the UFC's biggest promoter.

UFC started 33 years ago.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was founded in the United States in 1993.

At that time, various martial arts practitioners claimed that their techniques were the most effective. Some considered boxing, some karate, and some considered wrestling or jiu-jitsu to be the best.

The UFC was founded with the aim of turning this debate into a real competition. The first competition was won by Royce Gracie, a Jiu-Jitsu practitioner.

Gracie didn't look as strong or bulky as other competitors, but he was able to knock out larger boxers and karate fighters by knocking them to the ground.

Later, the format of the game changed, and players began to use a combination of different techniques, such as boxing, wrestling, judo, karate, taekwondo, jiu-jitsu, and kickboxing, to win.

Dana White bought UFC, remained in the news even after the sale

In 2001, Dana White, along with his old friends Lorenzo Fertitta and Frank Fertitta, purchased the UFC. At the time, the organization was on the verge of a merger and was purchased for just $2 million.

The first major UFC event since Dana White became president was held at Trump's property, the Trump Taj Mahal.

At the time, while many businessmen stayed away from UFC, Trump gave it a place in his hotel and casino.

In 2016, Hollywood agent Ari Emanuel's company bought the UFC for $4 billion. Dana White received about $360 million in the deal. But despite the company change, he remained the main face of the UFC.

That same year, Trump invited Dana White to speak at the Republican National Convention. Many advised her to stay out of politics, but Dana White said she would not leave Trump because he was a good friend.

Even during the COVID pandemic, Dana White did not stop UFC competitions. He built a “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi and held competitions within a safe perimeter. The UFC continued to run while other sports were suspended, further increasing its popularity.
