Students Dissatisfied with Class 12 Results

Kathmandu. Although the National Examination Board has published the results of Class 12 within 40 days, students have raised serious questions about its reliability.

The examinees have become agitated, stating that the results published by the board are unnatural and erroneous.

Students claim that despite performing well in the exam, the results were much lower than expected. Some students who achieved excellent results in their school's internal exams have complained that they only received a 'C plus' or 'Non-Graded' in subjects like English and Physics in the board exam.

One student said that even though she solved questions worth 70 marks, she only got a 'C plus', while another student alleged that she was failed despite writing the correct answers to all questions. They have drawn the attention of the board, demanding a fair evaluation and a transparent process.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the results, one student said, 'I always got good results in school exams, but the exam published by the board had lower marks in English than I expected. My exam was very good.' Another examinee complained that she was given 'Non-Graded' even though she solved all the questions and her answers were 100% correct. Similarly, students who solved 70 marks worth of questions received only a 'C plus', and for the first time in their lives, they had to face such poor results in English, according to the affected students.

Students dissatisfied with the results have accused that they did not receive marks commensurate with their hard work and that there was negligence in the evaluation of answer sheets. They also stated that the fees for retotaling and rechecking are extremely expensive and impractical.

Their complaint is that when they went to the Chief District Officer's (CDO) office in Bhaktapur to seek justice and permission for protests, they were sent to the board, and when they went to the board, they could not meet anyone. The affected students have demanded fair evaluation, a transparent process, and that their voices be heard.

In the Class 12 examination conducted from Baishakh 14 to 27, 104,711 students were 'Non-Graded', meaning they failed. According to the board, the exams of 38 examinees have been cancelled, and two individuals have been penalized by being barred from participating in any board examinations for one year.

Students dissatisfied with the results published on Asar 5 have already informed the administration about their peaceful protest.

The letter submitted by the students mentions that the current fee of Rs 1,000 for retotaling and Rs 2,000 for rechecking is a huge burden for families with weak financial backgrounds.

They have objected to the increased financial burden instead of a transparent education system. The board has made arrangements for students who are not satisfied with the results to apply for retotaling online by Asar 12.

Board Says: No Error Made

Regarding this matter, National Examination Board Member-Secretary Jang Bahadur Aryal claimed that there was no error in the results. Aryal said, 'All work from examination to re-examination is done by the teachers themselves; the board only acts as a mediator. Since there is an online application system, it is not yet certain how many have filled out the form for retotaling.'

Meanwhile, the All Nepal National Independent Students Union (ANNISU) has also drawn the board's attention, stating that the results were published with errors and irresponsibly. A team including Chairman Deepak Dhami submitted a memorandum on Monday, suspecting negligence in coding and decoding in the haste of publishing the results.

The organization has put forward a three-point demand, stating that thousands of students across the country are suffering from mental stress. These demands include a fair investigation of the results and action against those responsible, withdrawal of the increased retotaling fee, and arrangements for re-examination of answer sheets for students who have faced injustice.

ANNISU has also warned of further intensified protests if the board does not address these demands.
