Government Officials Call for Stricter Measures Against Drunk Driving

Kathmandu. Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development, Gopal Sigdel, said that the state should take a strict stance against those who drive under the influence of alcohol. Inaugurating the 'Integrated Traffic Management System' program organized by the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police at Ramshahpath on Monday, Secretary Sigdel said, 'There should be zero tolerance and strict enforcement for drunk driving.'
Secretary Sigdel also said that the fine for drunk driving should be made stricter. Currently, the traffic police are levying a fine of a minimum of 500 to 1500 rupees for those who drive under the influence of alcohol. If found drunk, one also has to attend a consciousness class.
