Tehran. Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that he will not back down from his responsibilities as long as he is alive. He gave this reaction directly refuting the news spread by an Israeli-backed media outlet about his resignation.
Addressing the cabinet meeting on Sunday, Pezeshkian said, "I will remain in my responsibilities as long as I am alive. Either we move forward with determination, or we become martyrs. In both cases, it will be our victory."
He mentioned that the value of his life is no more than that of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and said that everyone should actively fulfill their responsibilities to solve the country's problems. He said, "We have to be present in the field and manage the problems. We have to work with honesty, and God will surely help."
Pezeshkian's statement came after a news report broadcast by the Israel-backed television network Iran International. That media outlet claimed that Pezeshkian had sent a letter expressing his desire to step down to the office of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic. The news stated that he had sent a letter demanding resignation to the office of Mojtaba Khamenei, who was mentioned as the Supreme Leader. However, the Iranian government immediately denied the claim.
Government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani told the state news agency IRNA that the news was part of an effort to create instability. She said, "When national unity becomes strong and the Iranian people show unity in difficult times, efforts to spread doubt, despair, and instability increase."
According to spokesperson Mohajerani, President Pezeshkian himself presided over the cabinet meeting on Sunday. In the meeting, he reiterated his commitment to serving the people, protecting national unity, and continuing the country's work. According to her, Pezeshkian clearly said in the meeting, "I will not back down from the responsibility entrusted to us by the people."
While refuting the resignation rumors, Pezeshkian also participated in the closing ceremony of a sports program called Heroes of Iran on Sunday evening. His active participation in the program organized to honor the best athletes selected based on the votes of more than 10 million people showed that he is actively involved in regular government and public activities.
Iranian government officials have called this incident an attempt to spread misinformation against the government and have stated that Pezeshkian remains in his post.
