Consumer Court Orders Hospital, Doctor To Pay Rs 39 Lakh Compensation For Death During Childbirth

Kathmandu. In the incident of Manita Sharma of Gothatar, Kathmandu, dying during childbirth, the consumer court has held the hospital and the doctor involved in the treatment negligent. The court has ordered to provide a total compensation of Rs 39 lakh to the victim's family from Baneshwor-based Everest Hospital and gynecologist Dr. Jyotsna Sharma Tiwari.

According to Consumer Court Information Officer Homnath Kandel, the court has issued an order to pay Rs 30 lakh from Everest Hospital and Rs 9 lakh from Dr. Jyotsna Sharma Tiwari as compensation. Claiming that his wife's death was due to the negligence of the doctor and the hospital, the deceased Manita's husband Subash Parajuli filed a lawsuit in the court demanding compensation.
