Kathmandu. Service recipients have been facing problems as the MRI machine at Nepal Police Hospital has been out of order for two and a half years.
Patients coming for treatment have been forced to leave the hospital after the MRI service was shut down, which was meant to treat its employees and their families. Patients have been suffering as the broken machine has not been repaired for two and a half years.
About 80,000 police personnel are receiving treatment from their own hospitals. Even employees are forced to go to private hospitals for MRI scans.
The lack of interest in repairing the machine has caused problems not only for the police families who go to the hospital, but also for the general public. Currently, not only the police and their families, but also the general public are receiving treatment at the hospital.
But they are forced to go to a private hospital just to get an MRI. They complain that they have to pay expensive fees to get an MRI done at a private hospital.
The service recipients are dissatisfied with the hospital for not showing any interest in repairing the machine even after two and a half years. The hospital staff has been suggesting that they come and get an MRI done. When asked when the machine will be repaired, the staff has been saying that they do not know.
Hospital spokesperson Rameshwor Adhikari said that the machine has been broken for more than two years. He informed that the machine could not be repaired due to technical reasons. He told Nepal Press, 'The machine has been broken for more than two and a half years. Now, those who come to the hospital for MRI have to be turned away.'
According to him, the problem is due to the lack of funds allocated for the repair of the machine. He said that there is no information about how much the repair will cost. He said that the repair will be possible only after the government allocates the budget.
Nepal Police Central Spokesperson Abhi Narayan Kafle also confirmed that the hospital's only MRI machine was damaged. According to him, it would be appropriate to purchase a new machine as it would be very expensive to repair.
"Repairs also cost a lot. That's why we are preparing to go through the process of buying a new machine," he said.
