Government Orders Action Against 38 Platforms Over Illegal FIFA World Cup Streaming

Kathmandu. The government is preparing to ban 38 websites and mobile applications suspected of illegally live-streaming FIFA World Cup 2026 matches, following a request from the company holding the tournament's official broadcasting rights in Nepal.

The move comes after S Pro Media Pvt. Ltd., the exclusive broadcaster of the FIFA World Cup in Nepal, urged the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to take action against platforms allegedly involved in unauthorized transmission of matches.

In a letter addressed to the ministry, S Pro Media Chairman Som Dhital requested the blocking of websites and mobile applications that could facilitate illegal broadcasts of World Cup games. Acting on the request, the ministry has directed the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) to take necessary measures.

The authority has since coordinated with internet service providers and mobile network operators to initiate the process of restricting access to 38 platforms accused of operating in violation of copyright laws.
