Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma Approved as Chief Justice Amidst Controversy

Kathmandu. Based on the recommendation of the Constitutional Council, the Parliamentary Hearing Committee on Tuesday approved the name of Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

The Constitutional Council meeting held on April 24 had recommended Sharma, who was in fourth position in seniority, for the post. With Sharma’s approval by the Parliamentary Hearing Committee as Chief Justice, he will now take an oath from the President and assume the position of the Supreme Court. Sharma will serve as Chief Justice for 6 years, meaning Sharma will lead the Supreme Court until Baishakh 2089.
