Kathmandu. UML MP Suhang Nembang has drawn the government's attention to the suffering faced by the people due to unfinished roads and bridges in his constituency, Ilam.
In a meeting of the House of Representatives, he said that with the onset of the rainy season, people in the hilly regions have started to panic. Recalling singer Deep Shrestha's song 'It rains day and night in the city, maybe the fields will be washed away in the village!', he presented the difference in the suffering of the city and the village before the House.
"In the city, we are engaged in a grand debate about prosperity, but if there is heavy water flooding outside the parliament building, my mind immediately goes to Ilam," said Nemwang. "When water floods, the mountainous roads of Ilam collapse and landslides occur. Ambulances carrying patients and vehicles carrying daily necessities get stranded on the road."
He drew the government's attention to the budget and construction of the stalled projects in Ilam by naming them. He said that thousands of people are suffering due to the stalled roads and bridges including Rajduwali Road, Damak-Chisapani Road, Nepaltar-Mangalbare Road, Ranke-Rabi-Bhedetar Road, Belase Road and Madan Bhandari Highway.
Suhang claims that the main reasons for the delay in completing these projects are lack of budget, legal complications and extreme negligence of contractors. He also shared his experience of knocking on many doors of the ministry with the anger and pain of the people, but having to return with disappointment.
"After the rains, neither can people's representatives like us sleep soundly in the city, nor can the people in the villages sleep soundly," said Nemwang.
