Dang. The project to lift water from the Babai River and bring it to Tulsipur under a joint venture launched by the Tulsipur Drinking Water Consumers and Sanitation Organization three years ago with the aim of distributing clean, pure water to the residents of Tulsipur in an easy manner is expected to take another six months to be successful.
Although the infrastructure construction of the project has reached the final stage, it will take another six months as work including electricity and home connection remains to be done, informed the organization's chairman Yama Kanta Bhandari. According to him, the delay was caused by the contractor who was given the responsibility of the final phase of construction, who stopped the work citing the increase in the price of construction materials.
Chairman Bhandari said, "We are urging the construction company to start the work. It is likely that the work will continue as soon as possible." According to him, the work has progressed to complete the project at a cost of Rs 568 million 24 thousand 630. Under the project, water from the Babai River will be lifted and brought to Tulsipur.
Chairman Bhandari informed that work including installation of new pipes for water and construction of more than a dozen tanks at various places have been completed so far. The construction of a storage tank in Tulsipur has reached the final stage. Repairs to old pipelines have also been completed.
Chairman Bhandari mentioned that after the completion of this project, it will be possible to supply 100 liters of water per second. He expressed confidence that this will provide relief to the citizens living in the areas of New Bus Park, Ranijaruwa, Tulsipur Sub-metropolitan City (6), and various villages.
Similarly, the organization is taking initiatives to prevent unauthorized excavation in the areas of Mulkot, Ramri, Chisapani, Ghereni, Bakhre, Chharchre and Pahare, which are the main sources of drinking water, and to protect the sources, said Vice President Narayan Prasad Sharma. According to him, the organization has replaced the old sand and gravel in the Rakshachaur Treatment Plant.
"Water filtration is being done in the Rakshachaur area through sedimentation technology. This technology means that water is kept in a large tank for some time. The particles in the water gradually accumulate at the bottom of the tank. Then the clean water from the upper part is sent to the next stage. After the water is completely purified, it is collected in another tank and only then delivered to the consumer's home," said Vice President Sharma. He said that since this work has been completed, there will be no problem of murky water during the rainy season.
The organization has constructed and made completely safe about 100 drinking water distribution chambers at various locations. Vice President Sharma informed that the work of making the service delivery technology-friendly by implementing GIS technology and mobile app system has been taken forward. According to him, the goal is to provide a transparent billing system to the consumers by installing smart meters in the coming days.
The organization is providing drinking water to over 75,000 people through about 12,000 taps. Citizens are waiting for the water from the Babai River to be lifted. There is a problem in water distribution as drinking water sources are drying up due to the increasing heat.
After some villages in the Tulsipur area stopped receiving water from taps, the drinking water organization has been distributing free water daily by transporting it from tankers. The organization had earlier informed that the project would be completed and water would be distributed by mid-Ashar, but it has said that it may take about six months for water distribution.
