नमस्ते गुरवे तुभ्यं शस्त्रास्त्रविदुषां वरम्।
धनुर्वेदप्रदातारं द्रोणाचार्यं नमाम्यहम्॥
Meaning:
"Salutations to Guru Dronacharya, the greatest among the masters of weapons and warfare. I bow to him, the giver of knowledge of the Dhanurveda (science of archery and warfare)."
The winter is fading and the glory of Surya Narayan is increasing. The ninth day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Magh is known as Drona Navami. Best wishes to all on this year's Drona Navami.
Drona Navami plays a special role in the annual religious pilgrimage from Shalinadi to Bajrayogini. This pilgrimage is known as the Madhav Narayana festival. On the Drona Navami pilgrimages eat tasmai or the kheer.
Who is Dronacharya ?
Droṇa, also referred to as Dronacharya, is a major character of the Hindu epic Mahabharata. In the epic, he serves as the royal preceptor of the Kauravas and the Pandavas. He is one of the primary counsellors and warriors featured in the epic. He is a friend of Sukracharya, the guru of the asuras, as well as Mahabali.
As he was not born in womb, he was gestated in a vessel outside the womb and that's why his name remained Drona. Drona means a vessel in Sanskrit.
This Navami is named after Guru Drona, the Guru of both the Kauravas and the Pandavas. Drona, who is considered to be the reincarnation of Dev Guru Brihaspati, had a unique knowledge of martial arts and weapons. Good luck to everyone in this Navami named after Drona who has a special role in Mahabharata.
