Ecological Cooperation

The mighty Himalayas, standing between Nepal and China, symbolise not as elements of separation but as a perennial source of mutual bonding and friendship. This natural connection carries ecological significance with a shared destiny. Shiny mountains, moving icebergs, icy rocks and glacial lakes straddle either side of the territory. They starkly remind us that any movement of these phenomena has grave repercussions for both neighbours. The recent Bhotekoshi flash flood, triggered by the collapse of high-altitude glacier and rock along the Nepal-China border, has brought this truth to the fore. Glacier and debris fell into the Lhende River, blocking it before the natural dam burst, with accumulated water, rock and soil surging down the valley. It wreaked havoc on lives and infrastructure in both countries.
