National Assembly Deputy Speaker Calls for Laws to Preserve Historical Materials and History

Kathmandu. National Assembly Deputy Speaker Lila Bhandari has said that laws should be enacted for the collection of historical materials and the preservation of history. She expressed this view on Monday while speaking at a meeting of the Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee of the National Assembly. She stated that all stakeholders need to be serious about preserving the country's language, culture, and civilization. She pointed out the need to systematically preserve the history of all sectors, including economic, political, legal, cultural, and attire. She said that since citizens' interest in language, culture, and national identity is declining, history should be studied from the school level. Deputy Speaker Bhandari emphasized that the state should be serious about the preservation of Nepali festivals, traditions, and cultural heritage. 'We have to make the history of economy, politics, law, culture, and attire,' Bhandari said, 'During our visit to China, we were able to observe everything about the situation when Japanese imperialism attacked there.' Citing the example of students in China being taught their own language, culture, and country first, she said that in Nepal, imported culture has started to increase. She said that the tendency to consider oneself world-famous by mixing a few foreign words while speaking has increased, adding, 'We are forgetting our language, culture, and civilization; we have started saying Mom-Dad in an imported language instead of saying Aama-Buba.' She clarified that our festivals and traditions are on the verge of extinction, so the state should be serious about this, enact necessary laws, and focus on preserving history. Deputy Speaker Bhandari also emphasized the need to integrate the contradictory political history with facts.
