Man Arrested in Lalitpur for Multiple Thefts

Lalitpur. Police have arrested a person who committed theft in five different places in Lalitpur in a single day. The arrested person is 33-year-old Suraj Maharjan, a resident of Thaiba, Godavari Municipality-14, Lalitpur. Police have recovered a large quantity of stolen gold and silver jewelry, cash, and tools used for theft from his possession. On August 7, police received information about the theft of gold and silver jewelry from the house of Rina Maharjan in Harisiddhi, Lalitpur Metropolitan City Ward No. 28. Based on the information, a team dispatched from Satdobato Police Circle investigated using CCTV footage from the surrounding areas. 'During the investigation using CCTV footage, it was found that the person had also committed theft in four other places on the same day and was fleeing,' the police said. Maharjan, who was fleeing on a motorcycle with license plate Ba 90 Pa 2764, was stopped and checked, and stolen goods were found inside the black bag he was carrying. Police recovered nine sets of necklaces with red beads weighing more than 81 grams, necklaces, earrings, rings, chains, tilhari, and bangles from his possession. Similarly, rings, chains, necklaces, anklets, and bracelets that look like silver, as well as rings that look like white gold and diamonds, have been confiscated. In addition to jewelry, old and new coins, cash amounting to eleven thousand three hundred and ninety rupees, and ladies' bags and purses of various brands have also been recovered. Police informed that gold bills issued in the names of Rina Maharjan and Kanchhi, seven mobile phones of various companies, a power bank, a speaker, and earphones were also found with the arrested Maharjan. In addition, police have recovered scissors, five screwdrivers, three wrenches, pliers, and a knife used for theft. The District Police Range, Lalitpur, stated that Maharjan, who has been arrested, has been remanded in custody for five days by the Lalitpur District Court for further investigation in the theft case.
