Minister Sobita Gautam Calls for Rewriting Nepal's Development Framework for Disaster Resilience

Kathmandu. Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam has stated that Nepal's development framework needs to be rewritten to be disaster-resilient, moving beyond the traditional cycle of post-disaster reconstruction. In a Facebook post, recalling the series of devastating disasters the country has faced recently, Minister Gautam wrote that a new approach is necessary for future development and infrastructure construction.
Minister Gautam mentioned that Nepal has faced major disasters such as landslides in the last 12-13 years, the 2015 earthquake, floods in Bhote Koshi and Melamchi, the Jajarkot earthquake, the debris flow in Thame, and the recent devastating flood in Rasuwa. She noted that infrastructure built over years and with loans is destroyed in a few hours due to these disasters, forcing society to start from scratch repeatedly.
