Hotel Association Nepal Demands Removal of 10% Share Rule for Casinos

Kathmandu. Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) has demanded the removal of the proposed provision that makes it mandatory for hotels to have a 10 percent share in star hotels operating casinos. Speaking in the discussion on the Tourism Bill, 2081, in the meeting of the House of Representatives' International Relations and Tourism Committee on Thursday, HAN President Binayak Shah made this demand.
Shah argued that while the provision allows casinos to operate in four-star and five-star hotels, making a 10 percent share of the concerned hotel mandatory is not appropriate. He stated that making hotels mandatory partners in casino operations would lead to a situation where hotels would have to bear the legal and financial liabilities arising after the casino closes down.
