National Assembly Members Raise Concerns Over Flood Relief, Gas Shortage

Kathmandu. National Assembly members have drawn the government's serious attention to issues ranging from delays in rescue and relief efforts following the Bhote Koshi flood to the gas shortage seen in the market. Speaking during the zero hour of the National Assembly, members raised issues such as the loss of life and property due to the flood, the search for citizens trapped in tunnels and those who are missing, relief distribution in affected areas, road blockages, airfare hikes, and gas shortages.

MP Krishna Bahadur Rokaya, mentioning the significant loss of life and property in the Bhote Koshi flood, demanded that the health of pregnant women, new mothers, children, and the elderly affected by the disaster be prioritized. He expressed the view that health services, including emergency obstetric services, should be immediately expanded in the affected areas of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading. Another MP, Ghanshyam Rizal, stated that after the initial government promptness in the disaster phase, a lack of coordination has been observed in recent days in rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts. He drew attention to the delay in the rescue of citizens trapped inside tunnels and those who are missing. Furthermore, he demanded technical studies and the establishment of an early warning system due to the increased risk of glacial lake outbursts, such as at Chho-Rolpa in Dolakha, caused by climate change.
