UNOPS Pledges Technical and Financial Support for Flood-Damaged Infrastructure Reconstruction in Rasuwa

Kathmandu. The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) has pledged to provide technical and financial assistance for the reconstruction of flood-damaged infrastructure and long-term integrated development in Rasuwa. The commitment was expressed during a meeting between Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal and UNOPS Asia and Pacific Regional Director Sara Nyström at the ministry on Thursday. A high-level technical team from UNOPS, which had returned after conducting an on-site inspection of areas affected by the devastating flood in the Bhote Koshi River, discussed integrated post-flood reconstruction and infrastructure development with Minister Lamsal. During the meeting, Minister Lamsal informed that the flood on Bhadra 10 caused significant damage to the infrastructure sector and stated that all government mechanisms, including the ministry, are working day and night for the restoration and reconstruction of damaged structures. He mentioned that development construction plans are being advanced with a focus on the impacts of climate change and clarified that priority is being given to the construction of drinking water, temporary housing, and other essential infrastructure under an integrated development plan in damaged areas including Trishuli. On the occasion, UNOPS Regional Director Nyström pledged institutional support for Nepal's long-term and integrated development. She stated that UNOPS would provide technical and financial assistance to integrate its international experience and technical expertise with Nepal's reconstruction plans and to mobilize foreign aid for sustainable development in an integrated manner. Director Nyström clarified that UNOPS is ready to provide necessary support for the construction and restoration of essential infrastructure such as drinking water, buildings, and bridges in flood-affected areas. High-ranking officials including UNOPS Country Representative for Nepal Alexandra Radetic, South Asia Multi-Country Director Charles Callan, and Senior Infrastructure Advisor Rico Valenta participated in the discussion held at the ministry.
