Kathmandu. A flood in the BhoteKoshi on August 27 caused significant loss of life and property in districts like Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading. Relief and rescue efforts are ongoing. Among the citizens residing in the flood-affected areas, those with chronic illnesses are at the highest risk. Although immediate medicines have been provided to them, the Ministry of Health and Population and its subordinate bodies have not yet formulated a concrete plan for how to supply them with medicines in the future.
Narayan Subedi, the health coordinator of Gosainkunda Rural Municipality, stated that there is a challenge in supplying medicines to patients with diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, kidney-related diseases, and cancer. It appears that many individuals with chronic illnesses may face a shortage of regular medicines. He said, 'For now, NGOs and INGOs have assured to provide medicine support, but it could be risky for the future.'
