Ujyalo Nepal Party Chairman Kulman Ghising Criticizes Government's 13% VAT on Electricity

Kathmandu. Ujyalo Nepal Party Chairman Kulman Ghising has criticized the government's decision to impose a 13% VAT on electricity for agricultural irrigation, drinking water, and domestic use. He called this move by the government anti-people through social media.

According to Ghising, the tariff for irrigation was previously reduced from 7 rupees per unit to about 2 rupees, and the tariff for community drinking water lifting was reduced from 9 rupees to 4 rupees 20 paisa. "Electricity for agricultural irrigation can even be free; instead of providing concessions in such essential sectors, imposing a 13% VAT is unfortunate," he said.
